These devices provide indication to the service technician that the oil filter is clogged to the point that it requires service to maintain optimal engine performance.
There are two types of clogged filter indicators: electronic and mechanical.
Electronic clogged filter indicators can be configured with a variety of sensors, designed specifically for the requirements of the application. They provide an electronic signal to instrumentation (contact closure or voltage signal, change in resistance, etc.) warning of a clogged filter.
Mechanical clogged filter indicators by Parker Aerospace feature a pop-up indicator. These fireproof, lightweight devices are generally incorporated into the filter bowl in the pump housing. To avoid false indications, these are custom engineered to provide thermal lockout in cold conditions. This prevents nuisance indications due to high differential pressure resulting from higher viscosity oil present at low starting temperatures.
